Covered Bridges: Pictorial

Milestones Vol 2 No. 3

Beaver County once had its share of covered bridges but none remain (typical of much of Beaver County's Historical Stewardship) except for a couple new small reconstructions.

Left: Independence Bridge over Racoon Creek, the last to fall. Right: Fallston Bridge, one of at least seven covered bridges to span the Beaver.

Left: The Banks Bridge, one of the two remaining in neighboring Lawrence County, near Neshannock Falls. Right: Ralston Bridge, one of the four just over the county line in Hanover Township, Washington County.

A proud old bridge replaced by a modern culvert bridge. The identification of this photograph has been lost. Was this in Darlington?

Another view of Independence Bridge. This is a Burr Arch Bridge wasover Racoon Creek. Picture taken in 1938. Bridge collapsed in 1949.
